OSEA's mandate of exporting Canadian sustainable energy expertise to countries globally, especially to developing countries where such expertise is needed, includes active participation within countries of interest. Our contributions include knowledge, skills and technology transfer as well as providing relief where the need is dire. Sustainable business development being our overall goal.
Nigeria, a country of interest for our members, recently experienced the disastrous effects of extreme flooding resulting from heavy rainfall, exacerbated by climate change. Over 500,000 men, women and children have been displaced from their homes and their livelihood opportunities have been wiped out. These displaced persons are currently living in camps set up by the Government in different parts of the country. Urgent access to safe drinking water is required for those camps. In Anambra state alone, almost 18,000 people have been displaced. There is also a fear of large scale groundwater contamination which can trigger an exponential increase of cholera and other waterborne disease especially, if these camps do not have access to safe drinking water. Without donations from generous Canadian individuals, organizations and companies many lives are at risk.
OSEA has partnered with EnvironFocus to ensure that donations collected are used to purchase instant microbial water purifiers for the camps. Each water purifier costs $430 USD ($ 565 CAD) and will serve 70 to 100 people for an extended period of time with no repeat intervention required. The water purifiers remove
s 99.99% of all viruses, bacteria and protozoa from any water source without the need for chemical. This water purification technology has been approved and tested by the World Health Organization. The OSEA community looks forward to your support for this important and time sensitive project.
