Join a FREE outdoor screening of BEYOND CRISIS on September 21 from 6-9:30 pm at R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant! Filmmaker Kai Reimer-Watts will be in attendance to facilitate a post-screening discussion about climate change. Please BYOB your own blankets, chairs and snacks! BEYOND CRISIS is a story of hope for a rapidly changing world: a meditative call to action that explores what it means to be living in this new era of climate change, as told by over fifty diverse voices from across Canada, the U.S. and beyond. The film is also a unique conversation piece: a grassroots model for what a healthy conversation on climate could look like, inspiring YOU to take the next steps in discussing these issues with your friends, community and loved ones.

Biomass North's Green Energy Doors Open Tour - North Bay

Saturday September 22nd (9am to 2pm)
On September 22nd, the Biomass North Development Centre and partners are leading a series of facility tours of sustainable energy initiatives in and around North Bay, Ontario. Transportation to the facilities will be provided by bus, which departs from 176 Lakeshore Drive at 9:00am sharp and will return by 2:00pm. Parking is available on site at the Lakeshore location. There is no cost to participate, but registration is require as space will be limited. Refreshments will be provided, but please bring your own lunch.

Steam Whistle Green Energy Doors Open Tours

Sunday September 23rd (1pm, 2pm and 3pm tours)
Come tour the famous Round House, Steam Whistle's custom designed brewery and hear about all the amazing green initiatives that Steam Whistle is undertaking. These include their famous green bottle, their Bullfrog powered brewery, bio diesel delivery trucks and a cooling system drawing power from Lake Ontario. Greening Homes Work Shop: What's the Real Impact of my Reno?

The Greening Homes team will lead you through a typical one floor renovation from the High Park area, identifying unique green building practices used, and illustrating how holistic (and very sizable) environmental impacts can be tracked in typical residential renovations work. Camp Kawartha Environment Centre

The Camp Kawartha Environment Centre is a unique partnership between the Gainey Foundation, Trent University and Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program. Over 30 foundations, organizations, businesses and individuals have supported this award winning initiative. Using innovative green architecture; their environmental education centre showcases alternative energy in action. Designed and built by students in Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program, the Centre is, in the words of program coordinator and award winning sustainable builder Chris Magwood “One of Canada’s most sustainable buildings.” Located on more than 200 acres of Trent University’s stunning wildlife sanctuary lands, this unique 2,000 square foot structure is open for programming year round and will accommodate up to 80 people at any one time. Burlington Green's Open House
Location: 304 Seneca Avenue, Burlington
Sunday September 23rd (noon to 5pm)
This single family home is healthy, comfortable, low carbon emission and energy efficient. The passive solar orientation, insulated building envelope and air source heat pump results in heating/cooling energy about 90% less than the surrounding homes. The carbon emissions are also as low. Even with electricity costs being higher than natural gas, the total cost of heating and cooling is less than with a natural gas heating and electric cooing system. An environmentally friendly Fusion Garden has just been completed in the front yard. LEED PV Solar Open House with Green Roof
Location: 20A Senlac Road, Toronto

20A Senlac is LEED Gold - Residential certified. It has a 21 panel MicroFit Solar PV array and a full green / living roof. It was built as a modular home - trucked in from a factory in Indiana. the homes owner James McLean is a wealth of knowledge on green building and design and his tour is always a highlight of Green Energy Doors Open.

Ontario Water Centre - ClearWater Farms
Location: 481 Lake Drive East, Willow Beach, ON
Saturday September 22nd (10am and 2pm) & Sunday September 23rd (noon)
ClearWater Farm will be installing a mini-biodigester onsite in spring 2019 that will take foodwaste organics from the farm and local grocery stores and process it into natural gas (to be used to heat adjacent greenhouses and/or to demonstrate powering of our delivery van) and digestate (to be used as a soil nutrient). Sponsored by Enbridge, a local Grade 8 class has worked with our experience architects to design an interpretive area adjacent to the biodigester site to help visitors to understand biodigestion. These elements are all still in development so our tour will show how the system components will work together to enable locally-produced organics streams (foodwaste) to support local food production.

The Lambton College Energy Research Center aims to advance the research, development and commercialization of renewable energy management and optimization technologies. The Centre of Excellence serves as an educational facility and testing laboratory for industrial partners pursuing research in renewable energy management and optimization, end-use hydrogen and fuel cells. Green Energy Doors Open will give people a chance to see all of the different green energy initiatives being worked on at Lambton College.

Western University's WindEEE Dome

Take a tour of Western's WindEEE Dome! Western Engineering will be opening their doors of the Wind Engineering, Energy and Environment (WindEEE) Dome to the public as part of the 2018 Green Energy Doors Open, an annual province-sustainable energy projects, organized by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA). Doors will be open on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Two onsite tours will be held at 10:00am & 12:00pm. This public event is free of charge, but attendance is limited to 30 persons per tour. Please register here. About the WindEEE Dome: The WindEEE Dome at Western University is a one-of-a-kind three dimensional and time-dependent wind testing facility. WindEEE is able to create a wide variety of wind systems including tornadoes, downbursts and gusts. WindEEE does this by varying the configuration, speed and direction of 106 individually controlled fans located around the 25 meter hexagonal test chamber. Utilizing these capabilities, all kinds of equipment and structures (including wind turbines and solar panels) can be designed, tested and optimized for real world wind scenarios.
The WindEEE Dome is the only facility in the world that can:
• Create any type of wind system, including tornadoes, hurricanes, monsoons, and downbursts
• Customize testing to specific regions for managing risk for severe weather
• Measure the wind energy potential of a structure, town or city
• Validate wind farm design with realistic atmospheric turbulence and sheer conditions
• Become the world's most sophisticated weather machine to mimic rain, dust and ice storms, as well as testing patterns of airborne pollutants

Plug N' Drive Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre Open House

The Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre (EVDC) is the first facility of its kind in the world dedicated to providing an experiential learning environment for electric cars. The EVDC features numerous interactive touchscreen displays that walk visitors through the entire electric vehicle industry, a residential charging station showcase of Canada's largest selection of home charging brands and over 14 different makes and models of electric car from leading auto manufacturers that are available to test drive in a sales-free, no-pressure environment.
**All visitors for Green Energy Doors Open are encouraged to bring their driver's license so that they can take advantage of the opportunity to test drive some electric cars.

Queen's University Solar Open House

The Queen's Solar Design Team will be doing tours of their solar house, called the Queen's Solar Education Centre (QSEC)! The house has been a work in progress since 2013 and each year new technologies are implemented in an effort to achieve a fully autonomous house, requiring no electricity for the grid. Come join the annual Green Energy Doors Open Event, and receive tours done by Queen's Students.

For instance my home is well over 1000 square feet, in last winter's coldest month my heating bill was $151.00 and some change. That is for heating, cooking and hot water.
